The Evolution of Medicine is thrilled to announce a new theme for our Functional Forums in 2017. Each monthly episode will focus on a different medical specialty and connect the value of a functional medicine approach to its evolution. This comes at a time where use of specialists is becoming an ever more costly drag on medical systems worldwide.
Each Forum will provide practitioners from all walks of medicine, not only Primary Care and Family Medicine, but all the integrative professions, with the clinical keys and practical emerging models to deliver truly effective predictive, preventive and participatory medicine.
With our unprecedented global meetup infrastructure, we will also seek to create new relationships locally between current specialists and with integrative providers in order to stimulate the creation of the specialty centers of the future.
At the Durango meet-up, we’ll watch one or two keynote presentations covering a variety of topics. After which we’ll have small group breakouts to discuss the content while getting to know our fellow practitioners.

Hi, I’m Hana Renee, a functional nutritionist who works with clients around the country, from my home in Durango, Colorado. Like many of you, I know how it feels to watch hopelessly as your health disappears.
When I was 27, a painful, itchy rash appeared on my belly and, over the course of two weeks, spread to 95% of my body. I ended up with a staph infection in my leg and developed severe insomnia, which might have been the worse symptom of all. My doctors prescribed antibiotics to treat the staph infection and steroids to suppress the rash. They told me changes to my diet wouldn’t help my situation and recommended that I stay on steroids long-term.
Through my discovery that food can, in fact, be medicine, I found my calling to serve. You see, my entire life, I’ve been drawn to help people. In fact, I had childhood dreams of becoming a lawyer who took corporations to court for trampling on human rights. I couldn’t believe I was never taught that the standard American diet and lifestyle are literally killing us–and I was outraged. I decided to take a stand by helping people regain their health.
I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a certified holistic health coach, earned the designation of Reiki Master, completed my Yoga teacher certification with Yandara Yoga Institute, and honed my functional medicine and nutrition skills with Andrea Nakayama in her Digestive Intensive and Full Body Systems trainings.
